How does technology support the curriculum?
This, of course, is the question we as educators are always considering. Part of the vision of Oak Hills is to have anywhere, anytime learning. Achieving this vision requires technology.
Students will bring their own devices if the curriculum (and staff) supports their use. At Oak Hills, we encourage the use of technology (eLearning and BYOD) in some of the following ways.
Personal Support
Each building has a number of eLcs that support eLearning and staff members. We also have an eLearning Coach and Course Developer that works with teachers and administrators. The eKids program also supports positive assistance between students and staff.
Companion Sites for All Courses
Teachers develop online companion sites for their classes. These companion sites feature:
- Daily objectives
- Q and A forums
- Electronic resources used in the class (for example, notes, worksheets, presentations)
Companion sites may also feature online assignments and assessments.
Hybrid Courses
We have have number of Hybrid Courses offered at the high school level. Hybrid courses meet twice a week face to face and then complete the rest of their work online on their own time. This model is very similar to the college model of study.
Online Courses
Online courses are delivered purely online. Currently Oak Hills offers:
- Online Health
- Spanish 1 (and Spanish 2 for 2012)
- Mandarin 1 (and Mandarin 2 for 2012)
- Personal Finance
