3rd Grade Classroom News

Week of 5/21/12

Dates to Remember:

**May 23rd – Delayed Start**

**May 25th – Enrichment Day – Students will need to wear a yellow shirt to school**

Math – We will be sharing our Geometry Map projects on Monday.  Then we will begin designing a barnyard for some barnyard animals.  Students will have to draw out and plan it.  Then they will have to figure out how much wood is needed to build the fence and how much money it will cost them to create it.  This project will be completed as a class and uses area and perimeter, along with our multiplication and division skills.  The following week will be our final project of the year in which we will be creating a board game with math problems.  We will play the games upon completion.

Science - Our unit on rocks will continue with a discussion on how rocks are formed.  We will then discuss how rocks can be affected by weathering and erosion.  We hope to finish out the year discussing volcanoes as well.

Language Arts - Students will be learning to write an invitation this week.  They will also be introduced to a book project in which they will have a variety of options for a final product, diarama, mobile, etc.  This will be something they will complete in class until the end of the year.  It is a fun project and will not be graded.
