Week of May 21st

This Week

Thank you to everyone who donated for the pen pal lunch!  It was such a good time!  The kids really enjoyed meeting their pen pal, eating lunch with them and sharing their poetry books!  They are more than welcome to write to them whenever they’d like for the remainder of the year.

Reading We will conclude our author study of Patricia Polacco.  We have quite a few culminating activities to do with this author and the other authors we’ve studied this year.

Phonics  This week we will review nouns, adjectives and verbs

Math  We will continue Unit 10 this week  which is a review chapter.  We are ahead in math so I will probably slow things down to review well for the end of the year.

Writing   We will continue Writing Workshop as we have time.

BEARS Binders    Please take some time to read all of the information in the binder and sign each night.  I hope this will be a great resource to you over the school year.  The binder will be sent home every night and is expected to be returned to school every morning.  Please fill out the reading section of the communication sheet and sign nightly.

Progress book   I sent home directions on how to access data for your child on progress book a while ago and I added a copy of directions to your child’s binder.  I will update progress book weekly.  Please use this as another resource to help your child with any math skills they seem to be struggling with.  If you need any help with how to work on these skills at home, please don’t hesitate to email me.

Homework Policy Changes- Your child has a calendar in the front of his/her binder that they color in every day.  For the first quarter they colored it in pretty much every night.  Beginning 2nd quarter and for the rest of the year if your child forgets his/her homework (even if someone forgot to write it down) they will receive an X on their calendar for that day.  This will not allow them to pick from the prize box at the end of the month.  I have given them (and you) the first quarter to become familiar with homework assignments.   Now, in order to be rewarded at the end of the month they need to make good choices at school AND be responsible for their homework at home.  Thank you in advance for your support with helping your child become more responsible for doing their homework each night and checking to make sure their binder has been filled out and signed.

Reminders    Our class visits the library every Wednesday afternoon from 2:35-3:00. We have one more library visit for the year on May 9th.  We will only return our books on May 16th.

Our candy supply is always getting low.  We can use donations at any time. Thank you to everyone who has contributed.
